Proposed framework enhances multisensory learning and critical thinking skills in generation-z, suggesting improved educational outcomes.
Multisensory learning is currently not used to its full extent by educators in the tertiary education sector. Every sensory element in the learning environment is having a profound influence on Generation-Z student’s inclination and stimulation to learn. Based on this reflection, the paper proposes an innovative framework of multisensory learning to contribute to the development of a well-rounded Generation-Z student with the necessary knowledge and skills for the 21st century. The purpose of this framework is to help educators to strengthen their multisensory learning approach in Consumer Sciences by building a solid foundation for brain integration that will stimulate student’s attainment of critical- and higher-order thinking skills. The framework integrated VAK learning styles with Semiotic Resources using the ADDIE Instructional Design Method. The type of field in Consumer Sciences, the students’ cognitive level, the learning environment, continuous modification of learning strategies and student engagement are key drivers to ensure the correct use of the model. Using more multisensory learning approaches, educators may significantly improve the educational results and engagement for Generation-Z students. Tertiary institutions can adopt the multi-sensory framework by developing their own multisensory curriculum and integrate sensory evaluation methods and principles applicable to the field of study.
