Qualitative analysis highlights Islamic values in a horror film, suggesting its unique potential as a media for da'wah.
This study aims to reveal the Islamic preaching messages contained in the film Waktu Maghrib using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. As a popular medium, film has strategic potential in conveying Islamic values even through the horror genre, which is often perceived merely as entertainment. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the analysis focuses on the visual and narrative signs in the film, based on Barthes' concepts of denotation, connotation, and myth. The main focus is on how Islamic moral values are represented, such as the importance of prayer, respect for parents and teachers, and the dangers of injustice. The results show that the film symbolically delivers religious messages in a subtle yet profound manner. These messages are conveyed through atmosphere, character development, and conflict, creating a contextual and relevant narrative for young audiences. In conclusion, Waktu Maghrib is not merely a horror film, but also an effective medium for contemporary da'wah through symbolic and emotional storytelling. Abstract.
