Key result
Mat Pilates is linked to improved flow-mediated dilation and obesity-dependent body composition changes in women.
Why the study?
Does a 12-week mat Pilates programme improve body composition and cardiometabolic risk factors in middle-aged women, and does baseline obesity modify these effects?
Population
32 premenopausal middle-aged women, stratified by BMI into non-obese and obese groups using WHO Asia-Pacific…

p-value: p=<0.05
A 12-week mat Pilates program improved endothelial function in middle-aged women, with differential body composition responses depending on baseline obesity status, though lack of a control group limits causal inference.
Jung et al. (2026) conducted a cohort in Middle-aged premenopausal women (n=32). Mat Pilates vs. Non-obese women (for BMI stratification comparison) was evaluated on Body weight, fat mass and percent body fat (Group × time interactions) (p=<0.05). A 12-week mat Pilates programme improved flow-mediated dilation in both obese and non-obese women, while body-composition responses differed significantly by baseline obesity status (p<0.05).
