Discussion

Experiment shows real-time tracking of attentional template switches in visual search, highlighting the impact of attentional blink.

Key finding reveals rapid switches in attentional templates can occur during visual search, enabling precise tracking of attention dynamics.
Enhancements in response time differentiation by 700ms for early vs. late target presentations underscore the behavior of attentional templates.
Utilizing N2pc components, this analysis tracked covert template shifts associated with task relevance and external cues, producing critical insights.
Attentional blink indicates temporary deactivation of templates, suggesting this may limit visual search efficiency, with implications for attention training.

Martin Eimer (2025) studied this question.
