Analysis reveals achievement motivation impacts career stress in college students, suggesting career preparation and mindset influences.
This study analyzed the mediating effect of career preparation behavior and the moderating effect of growth mindset on the effect of achievement motivation on career stress among college students majoring in hair design in Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions. SPSS 26.0K and Process macro 4.3 were used to analyze, and the results of the study are as follows. First, achievement motivation, career preparation behavior, and growth mindset all had significant negative correlations with career stress. Second, the mediating effect of career preparation behavior was significant in the relationship between achievement motivation and career stress, as result of verifying its mediating effect. Third, the moderating effect of growth mindset on the relationship between achievement motivation and career preparation behavior was found to be not significant, but it was significant on the relationship between achievement motivation and career stress. Fourth, the conditional process model that simultaneously has the mediating effect of career preparation behavior and the moderating effect of growth mindset in the relationship between achievement motivation and career stress was verified as significant. That is, career preparation behavior partially mediated the relationship between achievement motivation and career stress, and growth mindset significantly moderated the relationship between achievement motivation and career stress. This study is significant in that it systematically examined the antecedent variables of career stress and suggested guidance directions for managing college students’ career stress, thereby promoting an integrated understanding of career stress.
