Field survey reveals digital technology enhances employee performance in construction, indicating significant effectiveness in project execution.
The dynamism of the construction industry coupled with mounting demands of clients (public and private), the diversity of the Construction Team composition, nature of construction professional’s inputs at pre-design, design, construction and post-construction stages of the project life-cycle have forced the construction industry to continue to innovate ways of undertaking these herculean responsibilities while delivering projects to clients to the required standard and specifications, at the right time to the required budget/cost. Overwhelmed with rapid technological advancements and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) nearly uncontrolled revolution/evolution, many construction firms are forced to deploy and adopt ICT solutions to streamline functions and increase revenues. This study was undertaken to identify the relationship between digital technology and employee performance in some selected construction firms of Nigeria. A field survey was used to conduct the research using a structured questionnaire whereby Sixty (60) questionnaires were administered, forty-five (45) were returned and analyzed. Descriptive statistics, percentages, tables, frequency and mean were used to analyze the data collected. Results of the study revealed that both organizations and employees derive benefits from digital technology deployment and adoption in carrying out organizational tasks and responsibilities. The study discovered that Digital Technology has significance in accelerating employees’ performances in a given construction firm given the complexity and uniqueness of construction projects, diversity of construction workers and the volume of information provided, generated and to be processed.
