Qualitative analysis addresses health system challenges for older adults, highlighting eHealth and telemedicine solutions.
The aging of Mexico's population, linked to increased life expectancy and the frequency of chronic diseases among older adults, poses serious challenges for the development of the country's health systems. Given this situation, paradigms such as eHealth and Telemedicine, empowered by the Internet of Things, have been established as a strategic axis for addressing the health challenges posed by aging in the country. Although their implementation has been promoted by government and private initiatives, their consolidation still faces technological, social, economic, and ethical obstacles which highlight the need to establish areas ─such as Design─ for the creation of innovative, accessible, intuitive, and secure solutions that guarantee the well-being of older adults. This requires the construction of theoretical foundations that conceptually support the problem and allow for the identification of interdisciplinary solutions, particularly from this field of knowledge. This article presents the construction of a theoretical framework ─based on a qualitative, documentary and analytical methodology─ regarding the current situation of older adults in Mexico, as well as the Internet of Things and eHealth, with the aim of establishing theoretical foundations that support the development of research related to the design of innovative solutions that meet the needs of this sector of the country's population.
