This article demonstrates grammaticalization patterns in subordinating conjunctions, highlighting derived prepositions and their unique features.
The aim of this article is to demonstrate a typical way of grammaticalization of the conjunctive type units on the example of a derived unit and, at the same time, to show the specific features of this process in the case of conjunctions derived from the participle and having the preposition as a stage of derivation process. The material was obtained from the Russian National Corpus by continuous sampling. In addition to the standard descriptive method, contextual and quantitative methods of analysis were used. As a result, it was found that patterns with the linking expression iskhodya iz togo(,) chto 'based on the fact that' display the violation of the obligatory 42 principle of unisubjectivity inherent in the standard participle pattern. Such a deviation indicates the detachment of the linking expression from the derivational verb stem and the shift of its functions toward forming syntactic connections and relations in the complex sentence. The material analysis has shown that iskhodya iz togo(,) chto 'based on the fact that' specializes in performing only epistemic function and, therefore, belongs to the class of causative argumentative conjunctions. In a complex sentence, the conjunction forms the relations of conclusionjustification. This function, as well as the lexical and semantic content of the component “conclusion”, is determined by the derived preposition included in the pattern.
