Observational analysis finds enhancing green spaces and water surfaces improves visitor perceptions in Tlemcen, highlighting urban regeneration needs.
The rapid urbanization of dense cities like Tlemcen has resulted in notable alterations to the morphology of their urban fabric. The city of Tlemcen has a restricted number of green spaces and gardens that are utilized for purposes of relaxation and recreational activities. The present article focuses on Tlemcen's Great Basin Park. The aim of this research is also to enhance comprehension of the function of urban green spaces in Tlemcen and to elucidate the manner in which they can facilitate the sustainability of environmental quality. The study employs a multi-method approach, primarily utilizing a self-administered questionnaire survey conducted in the selected open space. This method allows for the collection of subjective assessments from tourists and passengers who frequently visit the area. An evaluation of the calculated indicators within the selected perimeter is also provided. The results indicated that the incorporation of urban parks with tree cover and water basins within densely populated urban areas could enhance visitor perceptions. Furthermore, they could influence visitor behavior, habits, and sensations. The rapid population growth in Tlemcen, coupled with the dearth of green spaces and water surfaces, has led to a significant deterioration in the city's environmental quality.
