This study reveals that awareness and perception impact carbon capture and storage adoption in Nigeria, indicating notable challenges ahead.
Abstract This study examines the factors influencing the adoption of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology in Nigeria, focusing on awareness, perception, challenges, and storage capacity. Data were collected through structured surveys and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including Pearson correlation and Chi-square tests. Results show moderate awareness and acceptance of CCS, with oxy-fuel combustion and direct air capture rated most favorably. Key barriers include high costs, lack of technical expertise, inadequate infrastructure, and limited regulatory frameworks. The study highlights opportunities for CCS to support Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy, provided that robust policies, public engagement, and international partnerships are established.
