Bibliometric analysis identifies key trends in flood management methods, highlighting machine learning and GIS integration.
The paper presents a bibliometric analysis of publications from 2014 to 2024 dealing with the application of multi-criteria decision-making methods (MCDM) in flood assessment and management. The most commonly used methods are identified, as well as the trend towards the development of hybrid models that integrate MCDM with statistical techniques, theories that handle uncertainties well, and machine learning algorithms. The analysis shows a global representation of authors, with dominant contributions from Asia, and a focus of the most cited papers on vulnerability assessment, urban development and Geographic Information System (GIS) integration. The variety of methods indicates the absence of a universal approach, which encourages the development of contextually adapted models. The paper concludes that further research should strive for greater transparency, participation and standardization, in order to increase the applicability of MCDM methods in the complex conditions of modern risk management
