Analysis identifies food security issues in Russia, highlighting nutritional quality and domestic production under sanctions.
The article focuses on the study of current issues in ensuring food security in Russia under sanctions. The state and development level of the domestic agro-industrial complex and food markets over the past decade are characterized. It is noted that despite the significant increase in the country’s self-sufficiency in food products, the growth of agricultural production, and the enhanced competitiveness of domestic producers, certain contradictions and long-term directions for improving food security management remain. These are associated with the quality and safety of food products as well as the accessibility of healthy nutrition for the population. Food security is defined as a multifaceted socio-economic indicator that depends not only on production volumes but also on macroeconomic stability, population income levels, diet quality, and the safety of consumed products. Based on this approach, the study identifies food security issues related to the high share of household expenditures on food, unbalanced diets with excess carbohydrates and insufficient proteins, as well as the detection of harmful substances in food products. At the same time, positive trends and achievements in overcoming food security challenges and improving the overall situation under sanctions are highlighted.
