The settlement of criminal cases in Indonesia is still dominated by the classical paradigm that places the court as the sole forum for settlement. In practice, many criminal cases are also settled outside the court system through alternative approaches such as penal mediation. The thesis aims to determine and analyze the suitability of the role of investigators at the Sleman Police Headquarters in resolving criminal acts under Article 170 of the Criminal Code with Indonesian National Police Regulation Number 8 of 2021 concerning the Handling of Criminal Acts Based on Restorative Justice. The implementation of penal mediation can provide justice, linked to the recovery of victims after mediation in the settlement of criminal acts under Article 170 of the Criminal Code at the Sleman Police Headquarters. This research is empirical legal research with a sociological approach to law. The data sources used in this research are primary data obtained from case studies of criminal acts under Article 170 of the Criminal Code and informants, where the subjects provided answers related to the questions asked by the researcher in interviews related to the issues being studied. Reasoning. The results of the study show that Sleman Police investigators have carried out mediation tasks in accordance with applicable procedures and legal norms. The implementation of penal mediation in the settlement of criminal acts under Article 170 of the Criminal Code at the Sleman Police has proven to be able to provide justice for the parties, especially the victims, through a restorative justice approach. The penal mediation process provides victims with a space to convey the losses and impacts they have experienced. The agreement reached in penal mediation is not only oriented towards resolving the case, but also towards restoring the social and psychological relationships of the victims.
