Genomic analysis reveals SNPs and variants in Cucumis sativus var. hardwickii, highlighting its genetic diversity.
AbstractThe cucumber, a ubiquitous and economically significant vegetable, holds a captivating tale of domestication and evolution. Its wild ancestor, Cucumis sativus var. hardwickii, harbors a treasure trove of genetic diversity that has the potential to revolutionize modern cucumber breeding. In this study, we embark on a comprehensive exploration of the genomic landscape of C. sativus var. hardwickii, employing cutting-edge next-generation sequencing technologies and bioinformatics tools. Our investigation delves into the intricacies of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and genomic variants, unraveling their distribution, functional implications, and evolutionary significance. Through comparative genomics, we establish syntenic relationships between C. sativus var. hardwickii and its cultivated counterpart, C. sativus, providing crucial insights into the evolutionary trajectory of this important crop. Our findings not only illuminate the genomic underpinnings of C. sativus var. hardwickii but also lay the groundwork for harnessing its genetic potential to enhance the resilience, yield, and nutritional quality of cultivated cucumber varieties.
