Discussion

Field experiments revealed essential oils can significantly reduce peach fruit fly attraction, suggesting push-pull methods for pest management.

Trap shutdown reached over 95% with Yarrow and Ylang-ylang essential oils for peach fruit flies, indicating potential success in repelling pests.
Key components in essential oils include artemisia ketone, which achieved a 98% shutdown for male flies and 92% for female flies.
The push-pull approach combines attractants like methyl eugenol with repellents to manage pests effectively in orchards.
The findings support the development of treatments for other fruit fly species attracted to methyl eugenol, expanding pest control possibilities.

Levi−Zada et al. (2025) studied this question.
