Analysis reveals modern Cossack cultural initiatives shape youth identity, suggesting ties to historical memory and patriotism.
In the social life of the Cossacks of the North Caucasus, a steady interest of young people in historical and cultural values is recorded. The problem of the revival of the Cossacks has repeatedly become the object of research, but this article examines exclusively modern practices of the revival of the Cossack cultural tradition. The main source is materials submitted for grants from the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives for the period from 2021 to 2025, aimed at preserving the historical and cultural values of the Cossacks. Projects compiled by young people and youth organizations have been selected, which set out the goals, objectives and ways of reviving Cossack culture, which together give an idea of the values of modern Cossack youth, their ideas about historical memory, the preservation of traditions and their creative inclusion in modern socio-cultural content. The analysis of applications for grants from the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives is systematized by topic, which allows us to identify several cases reflecting the priority areas of state policy: the formation of patriotism through the revival of Cossack military valor, the spread of Cossack traditions in the newly annexed territories, the preservation of historical memory, as well as social projects based on Cossack traditions.
