This review highlights simulation and modelling tools for net zero energy buildings, suggesting improvements in energy performance.
An immediate energy crisis and climate change are engulfing the globe at the moment, and buildings are major contributors to these. In response, the idea of Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB) has surfaced as a feasible solution, and their design strategies depend on modelling and simulation to maximize energy performance and accomplish sustainability objectives. A research gap exists regarding simulation and modelling for NZEB, indicating a necessity for further exploration and development in these domains. This study underscores the design considerations, features, and limitations of simulation and modelling tools used in NZEB. The six major tools (Revit, BEopt, DesignBuilder, IES, TRNSYS and seai) have been considered in this study. Addressing this gap will improve the understanding and application of building performance simulation tools, resulting in more effective strategies for NZEB through socio-economic and environmental dimensions.
