Analysis of Lexical and Contextual Meaning in Niki’s Song Ocean & Engines

This study aims to analyze the lexical meaning and contextual meaning in the song "Oceans & Engines" by NIKI. Lexical meaning according to Suwandi (2008) is a word that, both in its basic form and its derivation, still has the meaning according to what is written in the dictionary, while contextual meaning is the additional meaning of the literal meaning of a word itself because of the impression that arises from a situation (Kusumaningtyas anad Khafita, 2022). This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected from the verses and lines of song lyrics which contain lexical and contextual meanings which were then clarified for further analysis and presented in the table. The conclusion from the research results is that the use of the lexical meaning in the lyrics of the song "Ocean & Engines" after being adjusted to the lexicon of the dictionary, is quite different from the contextual meaning that existed
