Analysis highlights environmental management and ESG indicators in Ukraine's banking sector, suggesting improved regulation and systems for sustainable development.
In the current conditions of globalization, sustainable development is of critical importance both for the international financial system and for individual national economies. The implementation of environmental and social management in the banking sector is a response to challenges related to environmental safety, social responsibility and corporate governance efficiency. In this regard, the analysis of modern regulatory approaches to environmental and social management systems is extremely necessary for the development of effective mechanisms for regulation and implementation of a unified Sustainable Development Information System (SDS) at the state level. The article considers the regulatory principles of environmental and social management in the financial sector of Ukraine, as well as international standards that determine the key criteria for sustainable financing. Particular attention is paid to international initiatives that have influenced the formation of approaches to environmental and social management in banking institutions. The article discusses the practice of disclosure of information by financial institutions on ESG indicators and mechanisms for assessing environmental and social risks. Regulatory documents and programs implemented by the National Bank of Ukraine and the Entrepreneurship Development Fund to integrate environmental and social aspects into financial activities are analyzed. A separate aspect is the analysis of the prospect of creating a unified Sustainable Development Information System (SDS), which should ensure the coordination of environmental, social and governance measures at the state level. Possible approaches to the formation of such a system are considered, including the use of modern information technologies for processing diverse data and automating decision-making processes. The article is aimed at highlighting current problems and challenges of environmental and social management in the financial sphere, as well as at substantiating the need to create a single coordination structure in the form of the Sustainable Development Information System.
