This guideline details how microwave-assisted extraction improves polyphenol yield, indicating its benefits for the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
Microwave‐assisted extraction (MAE) has emerged as a promising and sustainable technology for the efficient recovery of plant polyphenols. The purpose of this guideline is to provide guidance on the extraction of polyphenols from plant samples by the MAE method. Based on the principles of MAE, this guideline discusses in detail the key parameters that affect extraction efficiency, including contact surface area, solvent system, microwave power, temperature, and time. Furthermore, steps for the specific implementation of MAE to optimize the extraction of plant polyphenols are described. It is worth noting that MAE has an effect on polyphenol yield, component, and biological activity. In summary, MAE offers a rapid, scalable, and cost‐effective method for the recovery of high‐value polyphenols with a wide range of applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries.
