Comparative analysis highlights the need for inclusive urban planning in Niš, suggesting better integration for vulnerable groups.
The aim of this paper is to define urban areas for sensitive groups of residents of the city of Niš. The method is a comparative analysis of interview results with literature on world -wide case studies' recommendations. Vulnerable groups do not perceive space in the same way as the rest of the population, and the current state of the plans does not correspond to their needs. Aspects related to the integration of residents with special needs, small children, the elderly, citizens who are different from the majority, are not represented in city development strategies and directly negate the democracy of the area, in favor of the majority of Niš’ s population. Defining a mandatory part of location planning as an element of spiritual-ecological-economic- psycho-physical-motor development of children and youth, as well as for other vulnerable groups, can achieve sustainable public space in Niš in terms of European values
