Analysis reveals how green technology and digital innovation advance sustainable development goals in India, suggesting policy interventions are needed.
India is on a transformative path toward integrating green technology and digital innovation to achieve sustainable development. This paper critically examines how emerging technologies such as Industry 5.0, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and E-mobility are advancing environmental sustainability and industrial innovation across the country. By aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 13 (Climate Action), these innovations offer a roadmap for long-term resilience and inclusive growth. Drawing from Indian case studies such as Tata Power’s AI-enabled grid systems, Ola Electric’s gigafactory, Infosys’ IoT-based energy-saving systems, and blockchain initiatives by the Tea Board of India and NITI Aayog, the study explores how both the private and public sectors are responding to environmental imperatives. It also investigates challenges such as high capital costs, rural connectivity deficits, and policy gaps that inhibit widespread adoption. The analysis underscores the need for targeted policy interventions, enhanced digital infrastructure, and strategic partnerships to bridge these barriers. Furthermore, the paper proposes launching a National Mission on Sustainable Digital Technology and integrating AI, IoT, and blockchain education to ensure future readiness. The findings position India as a rising leader in green digital transformation, provided that scalability, equity, and technological maturity are achieved through concerted policy and industry efforts (Mahida R.
