Case study explores public space design involving youth, suggesting new methods for urban mobility.
Contemporary sustainable urban planning with holistic approach recognized the need for a change by including communities in the process. According to UN, 60% of all urban dwellers will be under the age of 18 by 2030. Today, youth still do not have an active role in the process. This paper examines the case study "Living Niš", process of designing open public space in the city center of Niš, through the principle of maximum planning with minimum interventions. The process of a new vision creation and interventions emphasized youth, aged between 15 and 25. This group, as an internal stakeholder, was included in the dialogue through all phases of the project. The project was developed using the conceptual holistic framework for sustainable urban development "The SymbioCity Approach", by incorporating various aspects: urban culture and identity; urban mobility and safety; environment; economy and energy; technologies and innovations, on three levels: people, space, buildings.
